Council committee forwards contract with Arbor Pro for citywide tree inventory funded by IRA grant

The Public Works Committee forwarded a resolution authorizing the city to negotiate and enter into a professional services agreement with Arbor Pro Incorporated to perform a citywide tree inventory and related urban forestry services.
City Forester Cody Lehi told the committee Arbor Pro scored highest of five proposals and offers experience with inventories for municipalities larger than Harrisburg. Lehi said the inventory will collect data including species, tree height and condition, and will cover street trees within the public right-of-way and city parks. He said the work will be funded by an IRA grant that carries no local match.
Lehi said the updated inventory will be used to schedule work and manage grant-funded remediation; Arbor Pro provides live updates during fieldwork and the resulting data will be integrated into the city’s GIS/ArcGIS hub. Council members asked whether residents should expect street trees to be removed; staff said trees determined to be dead or dying would be candidates for removal and that long-term grant-funded work could extend to remediation in tornado-damaged corridors if funding allows.
Council moved Resolution 42 to the next legislative agenda for a formal vote.
