The plan relocates the main entrance to create a clearer four-way intersection at Berry Hill Street to improve circulation and pedestrian safety. The applicants committed to constructing sidewalks across the full frontage of South 20th Street and coordinating refuse and truck access with the city engineer.
Jim Skinner, facilities director for Commonwealth Charter Academy, and Mayork Patel of Loughner Patel developers told council they canvassed nearby homes with “line of sight” to the school and engaged roughly 75% of neighbors, whom they said were supportive. Patel asked to remove an outdated traffic-impact study reference from the resolution’s draft after city staff confirmed the revised text was linked.
Council members said the submission addressed prior concerns about the site’s confusing driveway pattern. The committee moved Resolution 32 to the council’s legislative agenda for formal vote.
