The Seymour City Council on June 19 granted a specific-use permit allowing a travel trailer to be used as a residence at 500 East Ingram while the owner remodels an older trailer house on the same lot.
City staff explained the property’s existing trailer house is outside the city’s manufactured-home age standard and that zoning rules normally prohibit using an RV as a residence in the R-1 district. The permit was crafted to allow temporary residence in the RV during remodeling, with the trailer house to be the long-term residence when work is complete.
The council approved the permit for one year and asked for a progress report at six months. The motion, as passed, included that the city would review the property again at the end of the year and retain the option to withdraw or extend the permit if the work was not complete. Council members asked staff to ensure the applicant submits photographs or other documentation at the six-month check-in.
City staff noted the applicant previously received a travel-trailer permit for a separate property and that the new approval will be monitored for compliance.
The permit passed at the June 19 council meeting; no further zoning amendments were enacted at the session.
