District presents annual health assurances; approves brief ‘healthy boundaries’ videos for secondary health courses

Staff said the district’s health committees met on April 17, 2025, and that this year — not being a data-review year — produced fewer changes. The secondary human-development committee approved three short healthy‑boundary videos for Health 1 and Health 2 (the district’s eighth‑ and tenth‑grade health courses), staff said; committee members approved the videos for classroom use.
Staff clarified course and training requirements for teachers who teach anatomy, Health 1, Health 2 and related health‑science courses. Teachers using parent consent forms must use materials from the district’s approved materials list, complete state law and district policy training every three years, and complete training in the state‑approved prevention curriculum at least once in their careers. The presenter referred to the commonly used prevention curriculum implemented in Utah schools (reported in meeting as “Botbin”/“bobbin” training); staff clarified the district requires the state‑approved prevention curriculum training once during a health teacher’s career and provides access to the materials list for board members.
Board members asked whether the three healthy‑boundary videos approach affirmative consent; staff said the tenth‑grade units include affirmative‑consent instruction and the healthy‑boundary videos are brief (two to three minutes) materials intended to help students understand setting personal boundaries as part of the broader instruction.
Staff also said that no new elementary maturation items were approved this year and that the elementary committee did not approve new diagrams or images; existing elementary health materials remain the same.
Ending: Staff offered to distribute links to the approved videos and the district’s materials list to board members by email and reminded the board the district will add additional committee members to ensure representation from families with currently enrolled secondary students.
