The Columbia County Planning Commission unanimously approved a provisional home-occupation permit allowing Farm Fresh, a food truck operation, to use an accessory building at 3306 Tom Bartels Road as a commissary.
Planning staff explained health department rules require a commercial kitchen be separate from a residence; the applicants intend to use part of an existing 30-by- (shed) accessory building as the commissary. The property is zoned Residential Agricultural and staff noted an existing provisional home occupation for “Hannah’s Closet” operates from the same building. Staff recommended approval.
Applicant Gary Gunter told the commission the shed would be divided and inspected by the health department. He said the food would be locally sourced: “Farm fresh. It's gonna be all local, produce and stuff from the local farms.” The commission approved the provisional home occupation by voice vote, motion carried 5-0.
The permit allows one commercial vehicle to be parked on the property, consistent with county home-occupation rules; the commission noted actual food-service operation will occur off-site from the truck and commissary operations must meet health department requirements prior to operation.
