Rockport‑Fulton honors Special Olympics athletes, UIL competitors and state qualifiers; picks up pickleball MOU and donations

The Rockport‑Fulton ISD board used part of its June 2 meeting to recognize student and staff achievements across athletics, academics and extracurricular programs and to accept community partnership donations.
Special Olympics: The district recognized three Rockport‑Fulton students who competed at the Special Olympics Region 2 spring games on April 12. Results announced at the meeting: Savannah Martinez (third, 10‑meter wheelchair; fifth, tennis‑ball throw), Reagan Tomlinson (sixth, 50‑meter run; sixth, softball throw), and Ishmael De Leon (fifth, 50‑meter run; third, softball throw). The board thanked volunteers who transported students to the meet.
Pickleball/REACH: The board acknowledged REACH (Rockport Fulton Encouraging Activity and Community Health), a newly formed nonprofit that signed a memorandum of understanding with the district for use of public courts. REACH representatives said they would present two checks totaling $2,000 this year toward court maintenance and planned an additional $3,000 investment in court improvements; the organization praised the district for public access and said proceeds from events will continue to support upkeep.
Student leadership and academic honors: The board presented Student Advisory Leadership Team (SALT) certificates to about a dozen student ambassadors who met regularly during the year, and members of the high‑school academic UIL team were recognized for district placings and regional advancements in events including journalism, computer science and social studies. The board named Shivam Patel, Burke Johnson and Gustav Johnson as student delegates selected to attend American Legion Boys State June 8–13 at the University of Texas in Austin.
Athletics and coaching awards: Rockport‑Fulton recognized multiple state qualifiers: Hannah (last name reported by the coach) qualified for the state golf tournament for the fourth consecutive year and set a course record with a second‑round 5‑under performance noted by her coach; Madison Burton and Logan Wood qualified for the UIL state track meet and were praised for discipline and training by coaches Barbara Blue Roberts and Coach Swinford. Coach Swinford was also recognized as the Texas State Coach of the Year by the National High School Strength and Conditioning Association — an award the district described as one of four state recognitions nationally.
Trustees and the superintendent used the segment to thank coaches, volunteers and community partners for supporting student opportunities. No board action was required; the segment was ceremonial and celebratory.
