The Rockport‑Fulton ISD board voted 5–0 Thursday to adopt the Aransas County 2025 Hazard Mitigation Plan, a five‑year county plan prepared with a third‑party consultant intended to strengthen hazard mitigation strategies and support future FEMA grant eligibility.
Mister Nowotny told trustees the county engaged a third party, H2O Partners, to prepare the plan and offered to include the district at no cost. “This is just what we’re doing to mitigate damage to facilities,” he said, adding the plan could improve the district’s ability to access FEMA grants after a natural disaster.
Trustee Austin noted the draft plan still labeled the district inconsistently in several places; trustees agreed the plan could be amended through the public comment period that runs until September and directed staff to request corrections where the district name appeared as “Arandus County Independent School District” or other misspellings. Boardmember Bridal made the motion to adopt the plan with the suggested amendments; the motion passed 5–0.
District staff clarified the county plan focuses on mitigation actions for facilities and does not include evacuation sheltering or housing site plans.
