Council flags multiple board vacancies, asks members to recruit candidates

Chattanooga City Councilmembers were briefed on several open board and advisory positions and asked to identify candidates ahead of upcoming appointments.
The council chair told members there are openings for community advisory councils in Districts 1, 6, 2 and 8 and said council members should "be thinking about people you would like to appoint" and that staff (Chris Anderson and Nicole) can support recruitment. The chair also said the animal control board work cannot proceed until the board is fully staffed.
On passenger-vehicle-for-hire appointments, the chair asked that councilmembers from Districts 4, 5 and 6 coordinate to choose a nominee. The chair noted that some board terms have expired and that incumbents sometimes continue to serve while the council considers appointments.
A council member asked whether there is a standard time-commitment description to share with potential appointees; the chair and staff advised that commitments vary by board. One council member recommended contacting Chris Anderson for board-by-board time estimates, noting "Different boards are different amounts of time" and that the HEB appointment is "a fairly large commitment." The chair added that some boards meet monthly while others meet less frequently and said she would provide details on specific boards where requested.
Councilman Elliott requested that the council place a "policy and consistent support services" item on the next strategic planning agenda; the chair agreed and asked for the revised document to be sent to Nicole a day in advance for distribution.
No formal appointments or votes were held during the session; the chair adjourned the strategic planning meeting after the discussion.
