Fairview commissioners remove 287(g) exploration from agenda after hours of public comment

The Fairview Board of Commissioners voted on June 17 to remove Resolution 35‑25 — a proposal to explore participation in a 287(g) task‑force agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement — after extended public comment and debate.

The removal of item 11a from the agenda was approved unanimously, with the board recording the vote as 5‑0 to take Resolution 35‑25 off the meeting docket. The board also adopted a separate motion to allow more residents to speak during the citizens’ comment period; commissioners agreed that anyone who wished could sign up and speak for up to three minutes.

The decision followed more than two hours of public comment in which a wide range of Fairview residents voiced opposition and support.
