At the Joliet Township High School Board of Education meeting, educational services staff summarized semester 1-to-2 student-performance metrics and outlined next-year supports including a new instructional playbook for teachers, added release time for grade 9, and a hired math interventionist for the Central campus.
Miss McDonald presented on behalf of Dr. Kaffney and Dr. Riley, explaining the district's Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports and how the MTSS watch list is recorded in the district's PLP log in Infinite Campus and Panorama. McDonald said teams used STAR and IXL data to track growth and that students move out of double-block math and learning labs as they improve. "Even though it is a 28%, it's still a positive with the students who were off track," McDonald said, characterizing semester-to-semester movement for students who returned to on-track status.
The board heard that double-block math provides 55 additional minutes for students, while math learning labs provide about 25 minutes. Staff described IXL usage (noting large numbers of quizzes submitted districtwide) and said some students showed growth equal to an approximate grade level over the year in targeted supports. The district also plans summer professional development for teacher teams, expansion of advisory supports for accelerated freshmen, and to offer pre-AP biology and AP Seminar in place of previous course structures.
School leaders brought a printed "playbook" for new teachers that will be used in orientation and school-improvement days. Board members asked about follow-up for students who exit interventions; McDonald said those students are put on a watch list and continue to receive monitoring. The presentation concluded with a staff commitment to provide grade-level breakdowns on request and continued monitoring of student progress.
