Council approves two-year police union agreement with pay increases and canine premium

The City of West Melbourne approved a two-year collective-bargaining agreement with the Coastal Florida Police Benevolence Association on June 17 by unanimous vote. Resolution 2025-10 implements wage increases and other contract changes for the term through June 30, 2027.
Staff presented key financial terms of the agreement: a 7% wage increase in year one and another 7% in year two; an increase in the shoe allowance from $100 to $150 annually; removal of school resource officer specialty language (position not currently in use); and a new $2,000 annual specialty pay for each of the city's two canine officers. Staff said the union membership ratified the agreement in a vote.
Councilmember Adams moved to adopt Resolution 2025-10; Councilmember Bentley seconded the motion. The council approved the resolution by voice vote, 7-0. Staff said the contract will take effect July 1 and the city will implement the agreed compensation changes through payroll.
