The International Falls City Council voted June 16 to direct city staff to record Committee of the Whole meetings and upload the recordings to the city’s YouTube channel.
Councillor Kaler moved and Councillor Buller seconded a motion “to record the Committee of the Whole meetings and upload to YouTube.” Mayor Dill said the meetings already are recorded “less any technical difficulties” and praised staff for the effort; the motion passed on a council vote.
The council and members of the public discussed transparency and access. Public commenters said recording committee meetings would allow more residents to see budget discussions and other work that often occurs between regular council meetings. City technical staff indicated there is “no technical reason why we can't do that,” and the council asked administration to facilitate recording and publication procedures.
City Attorney Chelsea recommended a motion to direct staff, which councilors approved; staff will proceed to record and publish Committee of the Whole sessions unless technical difficulties prevent it.
