Resident urges one-side parking after pontoon, food truck block West Haven Drive; council to inspect

Charles Wagner, a resident at 717 West Haven Drive, told the Fostoria City Council committee he wants the street limited to one-side parking after vehicles and temporary vendors repeatedly narrowed the roadway.

Wagner said he has lived on West Haven Drive for 11 years and that recent parking — including “a pontoon boat” and a food truck — has made it difficult to navigate. “Somebody parked a pontoon boat down there,” Wagner said. He also reported a roughly three-inch-deep sewer or manhole depression left after recent paving and said the condition requires motorists to weave around hazards.

The committee did not take formal action. A council member said, “We can take that under consideration. You wanna talk to the safety service director about the manhole,” and told Wagner staff would “take a look at it.” Another council member noted access concerns for emergency vehicles, saying, “I could see where it'd be a real challenge trying to get a truck down to there.”

Wagner also asked that residents be reminded to move cars for two-inch snow events so plows can clear the street; the committee discussion included the potential for winter-parking reminders but no directive to enact a parking restriction.

Next steps noted in the meeting: staff were asked to inspect the reported manhole depression and evaluate whether one-side parking or other measures (signage, enforcement, or platooning of vendor vehicles) would be needed. No motion or vote was recorded.
