Principals report mixed results, district shifts toward foundational skills and I‑Ready expansion

Addison SD 4 principals presented school improvement summaries Wednesday that showed mixed assessment results and laid out common priorities for the coming school year.
Dr. Erin Alexander, principal of the Early Learning Center, reported gains in early classification skills and behavior goals, saying the center “exceeded our goal” and recorded a 16% increase from fall to spring on the measure presented. Principals at Ardmore, Lincoln, Army Trail, Fullerton, Lake Park, Stone and other schools reported a mix of increases and declines across measures that include NWEA MAP, HMH growth measures, I Ready diagnostics and preliminary Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) scores.
Several principals said math growth showed notable gains this year — often influenced by changes to assessment norms — while reading outcomes varied. Lincoln and other schools reported declines on some reading indicators and said they will prioritize foundational literacy skills through new pacing guides and structured small‑group instruction. Multiple principals described districtwide adoption or pilot use of I Ready and MyPath; Fullerton and Lake Park reported large gains among pilot grade levels and said they will expand those implementations.
Behavior and culture goals also featured prominently. Army Trail and Stone reported substantial decreases in major referrals and targeted school culture and attendance initiatives. Principals described a coordinated approach that includes data folders for students, family nights, social‑emotional learning routines (Pause/Second Step), and incentives aimed at maintaining momentum through winter and spring.
District administration said principals will return in August with finalized school improvement plans. Superintendent Dr. Sutton said the district will present consolidated district‑level data in a subsequent meeting to provide a five‑year trend overview and to align targets across schools.
