Carter, a city staff member, presented the parcel outlined in blue on the meeting diagram and said the city has owned the property "for a number of years" and has noticed developer interest. "We would try to market it and see if, in fact, we couldn't get some developers to pick it up for purposes of creating some housing options in the area," Carter said. He noted the site sits near Jordan and Central and is adjacent to the Meadowlark development.
Several council members expressed support. One councilor said affordable housing is "incredibly hard" to develop locally and encouraged pursuing options that could include affordable units. Carter indicated the staff process would follow the usual advertising and waiver-response approach to solicit developer proposals. At the close of the discussion, staff said they would move forward to market the parcel.
Next steps: staff will initiate marketing of the Mesa De Sol parcel, solicit proposals from developers, and report back to the council on responses and recommended next steps.
