"There was a small fire, at the north end of our city last night… it was handled very quickly. KSO Fire, Farmington Fire, Lakeland Fire all responded," said a council member reporting to the body. Officials said responders hooked up to two fire hydrants to prepare for potential spread and that no city resources were ultimately required.
Council members noted that the city’s CERT program has limited recent activity because training has not been offered recently. They asked staff to pursue cert training options and resources through the county and to coordinate with the newly appointed fire chief on mutual‑aid and contract details.
Separately, council members attended a retirement event for the outgoing fire chief and said staff will meet the new chief to maintain the working relationship and confirm coverage for July events.
No emergency measures were requested of the council at the meeting; staff will follow up on CERT training availability and schedule a meeting with the new fire chief.
