Susquehanna Township School District board members heard an Education/Athletics Committee report July 23 outlining staff increases and facility improvements intended to support classroom instruction and athletics programs.
The committee reported the district will add seven intervention specialists to supplement staff across three school levels — primary, elementary and middle — to reduce classwork burdens on teachers and allow more individualized attention for students, committee member Dr. Martin said during the meeting. The committee also discussed onboarding a new coach to replace a departing coach, exploring a digital ticketing system for events and the idea of creating a Susquehanna Township Hall of Fame to honor coaches, student‑athletes and notable graduates.
The intervention specialists, the committee said, are intended to “help class sizes” by splitting attention among students and supporting faculty. Director Dean described the Hall of Fame proposal as modeled on nearby districts and said the board is considering cosmetic upgrades to the main gym, including repainting, improved banner hanging on rafters and foyer improvements to better showcase school legacy items.
Board members did not take formal votes on the items during the report. Committee members said the Hall of Fame and gym improvements are still in early planning stages and would return for future discussion if the board opts to proceed.
The committee also noted that athletics staffing and ticketing discussions are ongoing; board members said specifics on funding and implementation timing would be detailed in future staff reports.
The report came during a routine committee update and did not include budgetary approvals. The district indicated it will provide more details to the board as the proposals are developed.
