The Village Board approved a three‑year intergovernmental agreement to continue shared maintenance of the streamflow gauge on the Des Plaines River that provides the village its nearest real‑time river‑level data.
Attorney Hubert explained the gauge was installed years ago with grant support and in cooperation with the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC). The SMC and neighboring municipalities periodically renew a cost‑sharing agreement for routine maintenance; the commission requested renewal after rediscovering the lapsed agreement. Hubert said Riverwoods and Lincolnshire are parties to the agreement and split the maintenance cost in three parts; he described the village’s share as relatively modest relative to the operational value.
A trustee who lives in the floodplain said residents monitor the gauge closely and described thresholds for household preparation; the speaker noted that when the gauge reaches 15.5 feet they begin sandbagging and at 16 feet water can enter the front door. Because the agreement involves village funds, the trustee requested a roll‑call vote; the motion to approve the resolution passed with ayes from Trustees Raff, Smith, Trevino, Eastman and Jamerson.
The agreement will keep the gauge serviced and current for roughly three more years and allow the Stormwater Management Commission to perform scheduled maintenance and data collection.
