A Fruit Heights resident described receiving an email from Rock Mountain Power about enhanced safety settings tied to elevated wildfire risk and said the message was followed by a localized power outage. The resident urged households to prepare for outages and shared practical preparedness steps.
"Rock Mountain Power sent out an email… due to the elevated wildfire risk in your area where you're taking additional safety precautions, we have turned on enhanced safety settings," the resident said. They said power was interrupted soon after and recommended stockpiling water, nonperishable food, battery-powered radios and flashlights, first-aid supplies, important family documents, cash in small bills, and items for infants or people with disabilities.
The presenter warned about generator safety, advised using grills outdoors only and discouraged running household water unnecessarily because systems can lose pressure without power. The resident also said the utility provided medical‑needs support and a phone number for customers who rely on life‑support equipment.
Councilors did not take formal action based on the comment but thanked the resident for sharing resources. The council noted Rock Mountain Power’s enhanced safety settings can automatically de-energize lines when debris, wildlife or strong winds contact equipment and advised residents to consult the utility’s preparedness webpage for details.
