Fruit Heights council adopts FY2025–26 operating budget, approves FY2024–25 amendment

Fruit Heights City Council approved the operating budget for fiscal year 2025–26 and adopted an amendment to the fiscal year 2024–25 budget during the meeting. The council also approved a certified tax rate of 0.001717 tied to the FY2025–26 operating budget.

The budget vote finalizes the city’s spending plan that will govern operations from July 1 through June 30 of the next fiscal year. City staff said the tentative budget approved in May remains largely unchanged; the primary differences are adjustments to funding for fire service and auditing costs.

"This is the tentative budget that was approved in May. Now is the time to approve this budget to be our operational budget," said Chris, a city staff member presenting the item. He told the council that staff had received county and state property-tax information and that transfers from last year’s surplus into the general fund are reflected in the operating budget.

Council members moved to open and close the public hearing for the FY2025–26 budget, then voted to adopt resolution 2025‑07 (operating budget and certified tax rate 0.001717). Earlier in the meeting the council approved resolution 2025‑06, an amendment to the FY2024–25 budgets.

The council chair called for motions and recorded that each resolution was moved and seconded. The motions passed; for the FY2025–26 budget the recorded tax rate is 0.001717. Staff emphasized the city’s long-standing fiscal practice to remain in the black and to reserve funds for capital projects. The presenter noted that if line items shift during the year, staff try to keep the budget balanced.

The council did not identify additional budget amendments at the meeting; staff will implement the adopted FY2025–26 operating budget starting July 1.
