Under the superintendent’s version adopted by the committee, the district will replace several half‑day conference sessions with one full conference day (8 a.m.–4 p.m.) and retain at least one evening conference. Administrators said the total number of conference hours will remain similar to prior years but reorganized to create larger, more usable blocks of time—particularly for high‑school families, who the district said previously had limited access to conference time.
The change is driven by the district’s contract terms with the Longmeadow Education Association and a desire to modernize parent‑teacher communications—recognizing phone, email and virtual meetings are commonly used—and to provide more substantive face‑to‑face time when needed. The calendar committee and superintendent conferred with the calendar committee and the LEA before the recommendation.
The School Committee approved the superintendent’s calendar (document dated 06/12/2025) by roll call. Administrators said they will publish details to families and continue outreach explaining the new conference schedule and how evening and daytime options will be used.
