The Imperial City Council approved four new job classifications and associated salary ranges on a unanimous vote.
Human resources staff presented the proposal and said the classifications are included in the proposed FY 2025–26 budget and will not require additional unbudgeted funding. The new titles are: Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Supervisor (range 805), Collection System Worker I (range 62) and Collection System Worker II (range 66), and a seasonal, part-time Lunch at the Library Intern Lead (range 55). The presentation noted the collection system positions will be represented by Teamsters and are FLSA nonexempt; the supervisor classification would be FLSA exempt and unrepresented.
Council discussed supervision and chain-of-command for the building-inspector supervisor, and staff said that person would oversee four employees and could perform inspections as needed. Council voted 5-0 to adopt the classifications and salary ranges.
Why it matters: the classifications create a dedicated team for wastewater-collection maintenance, add supervisory capacity in community development, and establish a seasonal position to run the library’s summer lunch program. Staff said the positions are already included in the proposed budget for the coming fiscal year.
Implementation: human resources and department directors will proceed with recruiting and classification implementation; staff said the part-time seasonal classification is not eligible for benefits and will be paid per the adopted range.
