The Green River City Council approved a bid award to purchase nine self-contained breathing apparatus units (SCBAs) to Municipal Emergency Services for a total package price of $86,697.
Fire Department staff said the purchase was sized to use the full $85,000 awarded through a Homeland Security grant and that $1,697 will come from the fire department’s budget to cover the remainder. Staff explained the purchase aligns with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards that require a pack for every seated position on apparatus; the additional units will replace older packs that will be out of service within five years.
Fire staff also said they have applied for an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to fund the remaining 35 packs needed to outfit all positions. Council approved the award by voice vote; staff indicated the purchase will allow better interoperability with nearby agencies that use the same make of SCBA.
