Washington County receives favorable bids for Fair Park modernization; award pending vetting

Chief Community Development Officer Jamie Ludovic told the committee that bids submitted that day were "very favorable to our total project budget," and that the county will proceed with due diligence before formally selecting a contractor.
Why it matters: The modernization covers audio and control systems, upgraded power distribution, a one-for-one exterior lighting fixture replacement, acoustics and interior updates at the Ziegler Center and pavilion. County staff said completing the work ahead of the next fair will improve sound, lighting and visitor experience.
Project scope and schedule
Ludovic summarized the work packages under consideration: base audio and control systems, upgraded power distribution, lighting-system upgrades (including exterior pole-mounted alternates), acoustics upgrades with a broken-out "bare bones" and enhanced package, exterior color-changing lights, video systems, bathroom updates in both the pavilion and Ziegler Center, cabinet and millwork in 4-H conference rooms, minor mechanical updates, signage and window shades automation for conference rooms. The county will confirm that the apparent low bid captures all required scope before issuing an award.
Staff said the project schedule calls for work to begin later this summer and continue through early next spring. Ludovic told the committee that staff expects to publicly release the recommended bid award no later than the Friday following the meeting after completing vetting.
Committee reaction and next steps
Supervisors congratulated staff on the favorable results and encouraged prompt award and delivery. No formal contract award vote was recorded at the meeting; staff said it will return with the recommended award after final due diligence.

If the recommended award is approved after vetting, construction is expected to start later this summer with many upgrades completed before the next annual fair, officials said.
