The Veneta City Council on June 17 accepted Kayton Huxtable as a volunteer firefighter, approved a fire-equipment invoice and authorized renting equipment to support a South Wilson stormwater ditch project if state assistance does not materialize.
Fire Chief Huxtable recommended accepting Kayton Huxtable as a volunteer firefighter effective June 17; the chief told the council the recruit is his son, has completed an interview process and is completing EMT school with expected completion June 22. The council approved the appointment by voice vote with no opposition.
The council also approved an invoice identified in the packet as AID-20205 from Banner Fire Equipment for items described as hose, hydrant adapters and related fittings. The transcript includes a citation string for the invoice but the dollar amount was not clearly recorded in the meeting transcript; staff said the purchase would be paid from the fire department maintenance-and-operations budget.
On stormwater, the council authorized renting a RodeoXL (model described in meeting as โ4,100โ or similar) from Kirby-Smith Machinery for the South Wilson stormwater ditch project at a cost not to exceed $6,000. Council members said the rental is a backup plan while staff seeks state help to supply a grader; the rental authorization allows the city to proceed if the state does not assist. Councilors noted heavy recent rains and localized flash flooding and said the ditch work will help improve drainage in the project area.
City Administrator Ryan Prince provided project updates: Miller Street has been milled and work is underway by contractor Moorhead Construction; a REAP grant-funded water-line project at the industrial park has been completed and is in closeout; a separate wastewater REIT grant application and engineering report have been submitted to the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality and staff are awaiting a response. Prince also said staff are implementing water-flushing programs and coordinating between water and street departments to address localized drainage and intermittent flash-flooding complaints.
All items were approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
