The Veneta Utilities Authority voted June 17 to purchase a used 2018 Freightliner for use as a yard truck in the solid-waste operation, with a purchase price not to exceed $12,000, officials said.
Public works staff said the authority’s existing yard truck—a Mack used as a yard dog—requires an expensive clutch repair and tires that together would approach the cost of acquiring the Freightliner. Staff reported the Freightliner has about 500,000 miles and that a diagnostic scan did not show outstanding alerts. Staff also said the seller indicated he might accept trade-in of scrap trucks but had not provided a firm trade allowance by the meeting.
The authority approved the purchase after a motion by Tyler and a second by Leier; members voted by voice with no opposition. Staff identified the purchase as a cost-avoidance decision relative to repairing the existing vehicle.
The authority did not formalize surplus or trade-in values for the older vehicles during the meeting; it did not specify warranty terms for the Freightliner.
