Gordon Granger in Galveston, Texas. It states Juneteenth “commemorates the strength and courage of African Americans” and urges residents to “recognize this day, participate in dialogue … and collectively help further the promise of freedom and equality for all.”
Supervisor Faisal moved the proclamation and Supervisor Merkin seconded. The board recorded votes of “aye” from Faisal and Merkin; the proclamation was adopted. The board also thanked Supervisor Faisal for her work in securing county recognition of the holiday.
The proclamation is ceremonial and encourages community reflection and dialogue; no additional county policy changes were made as part of the vote.
