A council member asked colleagues not to approve Item 20 at the committee meeting and instead to recommit the wind‑turbine resolution so staff could solicit input from additional stakeholders, including fishing and sports clubs and environmental groups.
The member said the committee had heard from one organization at the prior hearing and that other affected groups had not been heard. “I think that we need to get opposing opinions before we just approve this,” the member said, adding that much of the material submitted to members contained misinformation. The speaker requested outreach to the walleye association, sports clubs and non‑political environmental groups to help the council understand environmental and fishing impacts.
The member described concerns about potential contamination reaching the Niagara River and drinking water but said they did not oppose environmental action broadly; rather, they sought more technical input from environmental scientists and fisheries stakeholders. The chair said the motion would be to recommit the item and obtain broader comment before approval.
The committee recorded the intent to recommit Item 20 for further stakeholder engagement; no final policy decision on the resolution was made at the meeting.
