CRA awards $10,000 visual-improvement grant to Catalyst Shop after applicant revises request

The Cocoa Beach Community Redevelopment Agency approved a $10,000 commercial visual improvement grant for the business identified as the Catalyst Shop at 109 North Orlando Avenue.
Eric Cromgold, general manager of Kalos Surf Shops (presenting for the property), told the CRA the deck replacement had already been completed and the current request was for cleaning and repainting, replacement of flashing and other exterior maintenance. Cromgold said the total project quotes were “right around $20,000” and that the application would request roughly $10,000 in reimbursement.
Staff reminded the applicant that CRA guidelines require three contractor bids per trade or a written justification if fewer bids are provided, and that reimbursements are processed after submission of receipts. Deputy Finance Director Devin Talley told the applicant that expenditures must occur within the program’s timeframe (roughly six months from approval) and that the grant reimburses up to 50% of eligible costs, subject to the CRA cap.
A commissioner moved to approve $10,000 for the Catalyst Shop; after a second and no further public comment, the CRA voted to approve the award and staff said they would meet with the applicant to explain the post-approval process, required documentation and timeline.
The applicant agreed to return contractor quotes and staff will verify compliance with CRA procurement and payment rules before reimbursement.
