Laredo MPO backs TxDOT recommendations for FM 1472 Segment 1; committee to send resolution to Transportation Commission

The Laredo Metropolitan Planning Organization policy committee on June 18 approved Resolution MPO 2025-08 supporting the Texas Department of Transportation’s FM 1472 Segment 1 feasibility study recommendations and agreed to present the resolution as part of public comments at the Texas Transportation Commission meeting.
Staff told the committee that TxDOT’s public meeting on the FM 1472 schematic the previous evening drew heavy attendance — staff estimated about 80 people — and that most early comments received by staff were generally in favor of the recommended alternative. Staff said local elected officials, including Mayor Pro Tem Vanessa Perez, and state representatives had engaged on the project and that the MPO wants to show its support as TxDOT seeks project prioritization in the Unified Transportation Program.
The committee passed the resolution by voice vote. Staff said the public comment period for the FM 1472 segment is open through July 7, and the MPO intends to submit the adopted resolution as part of its public comment to the commission in Austin.
Committee members discussed the project’s long-term need and cost and urged timely coordination with state and federal partners to secure funding. Members also emphasized the importance of keeping Laredo projects on the commission’s priority list as statewide funding becomes more competitive, and they asked staff to have the signed resolution available for the delegation’s trip to Austin.
