The Corte Madera Climate Action Committee on June 18 finalized content and volunteer plans for a Fourth of July outreach table that will display two large poster boards on town greenhouse-gas sources and the town’s climate-action progress, offer a community pledge activity and distribute informational postcards and flyers.
Staff described two poster boards: one showing the primary local sources of greenhouse-gas emissions, and another summarizing town progress on the climate action plan. Committee members recommended tightening and reordering the content to emphasize current committee priorities — multifamily EV charging and heat pump water heaters — and to reduce text density so visitors can absorb the message quickly.
Why this matters: committee members said the event is both an awareness exercise and an opportunity to steer residents to concrete resources. Phoebe noted the town’s existing heat-pump water-heater postcards are available for distribution and suggested the committee could print additional copies of the EV outreach postcard and other handouts for the event. Several members proposed a QR sticker on public charging stations and on signage at the table to send users directly to tenant and owner resources.
Placemats and engagement: the committee will host a climate-pledge activity where visitors write pledges on Post-it notes and add them to a display board; participants can enter a raffle for a small prize. Karen and other members suggested grouping the poster content into short-term and long-term actions and adding a brief callout listing committee accomplishments, such as outreach on permitting-fee reductions for heat-pump water heaters.
Volunteers and logistics: Sarah and Philip will staff the morning shift, Karen volunteered for the afternoon, and Phoebe expects to be on site much of the day; the committee expects the new student ambassador to help if onboarded in time. Staff confirmed the poster printing was already in progress and said the town communications manager helped place materials in the newsletter and on social channels.
Next steps: staff will circulate a condensed checklist of talking points, add a short callout about committee priorities and consider a small landing page to host tenant and property-owner resources. Committee members asked staff to circulate final materials by email for quick comment and to coordinate QR codes and postcards for the event.
