Corte Madera committee selects student ambassador candidate after broad outreach

The Corte Madera Climate Action Committee said on June 18 that a month-long recruitment push produced one strong applicant for the student ambassador role and that the committee plans to onboard the candidate before the next meeting.
Staff and volunteers circulated a flyer to Redwood High School channels, the town newsletter, Facebook and Nextdoor. Phoebe said link-tracking showed more than 1,000 clicks on the position description, and the committee and staff reviewed one applicant and recommended moving forward pending the applicant’s agreement.
Why this matters: the student ambassador position is intended to boost outreach capacity — including tabling at community events — and to give students experience in local climate work. The committee invited current student ambassadors Sid and Sienna to help orient the new student and encouraged members to join a preliminary meeting to welcome the candidate.
Committee members said they aim to have the ambassador meet before July 4 so the student can participate in the town’s Fourth of July tabling. The committee also asked staff to schedule an initial orientation within the next month and to circulate meeting times for volunteers who want to join the onboarding session.
Next steps: staff will contact the applicant to set a preliminary meeting and invite committee volunteers and prior student ambassadors to participate. The new ambassador is expected to begin attending meetings and support outreach through the summer and into the school year.
