The John Silver Early Learning Center conducted a computerized lottery on June 18 to assign enrollment and wait-list positions for its kindergarten after-school program, staff said. The randomized list will be broadcast on Chelsea Cable and the Chelsea Community Cable YouTube channel, and letters notifying families of placements or wait-list status will be mailed next week.
Kim Overbau, assistant principal of the John Silver Early Learning Center, said the school used a software program to randomize entries: "we will be conducting the lottery using a computer program." Prischelle Ventura, the school’s family liaison, served as interpreter during the announcement.
Staff showed a list of students entered in the lottery, then ran the computer randomization and renumbered the list. The school said the broadcast schedule included Chelsea Cable on Wednesday, June 18 at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, June 19 at 12:00 p.m., and Friday, June 20 at 3:00 p.m., and that the recording would be available on the Chelsea Community Cable YouTube channel on Thursday morning.
Letters informing families of their placement or wait-list status will be mailed by the Early Learning Center next week, the staff announcement said. No policy changes, votes, or appeals processes were discussed during the announcement.
