Lebanon schools approve design releases and change orders for ongoing construction projects

The Lebanon Community School Corporation board on Tuesday approved multiple construction change orders and a partial design release to advance ongoing school projects, and staff updated the board on a planned connector road funded by prior transportation authorization.
District business staff reported a partial release to A & F Design to complete the full survey for a road connection project — $23,600 for the full survey scope plus additional design development work — and an aggregate $74,416 released so far to produce preliminary plans for municipal review. The district said the road will connect Grant Street to a recently completed transportation road and is funded from excess funds authorized in the district’s 2023 transportation allocation.
Construction change orders approved by the board addressed moisture remediation and drying for a middle‑school slab before terrazzo installation, electrical work for transportation building sump‑pump relocation, and unforeseen underground site conditions at Central Elementary that required additional domestic water isolation valves and storm‑water pipe work. Staff said some change orders represent returns of unused allowances as contractors close out elementary projects, while other change orders reflect genuinely unforeseen site conditions.
Why it matters: The change orders and partial design releases are routine steps to move projects to completion, protect finished surfaces and meet manufacturer warranties, and to finalize designs prior to municipal permitting.
District buildings and grounds staff noted that some change orders are collections of many smaller individual items; the board approved the listed change orders by voice vote. Staff said elementary projects are nearing final closeout and the board will see fewer open contract rows in coming months.
