The Dawsonville City Council voted June 16 to approve a letter of support for the Dawson County Economic Development Council to seek grant funding from the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission (GMRC) for water and sewer infrastructure to a county-owned industrial site near Shoal Creek Road.
Mayor Waldron said the city met with county and economic development representatives, and described the site as an opportunity to attract employers and well-paying jobs to the area. "As we all know, there's a big need for jobs in this community," the mayor said, urging support for the county's grant pursuit. City Manager Bob Bose noted the site is county-owned and requires significant grading; staff and county officials discussed plans for multiple buildings, including a building of more than 100,000 square feet. City leaders stated the parcel consists of roughly 14 to 16 acres during council remarks.
Council moved to approve the letter of support and authorized the mayor to sign; Council Member Ilk made the motion and Council Member Phillips seconded. The clerk recorded the motion as passing. Council and staff framed the action as support for the county's efforts to secure infrastructure funding rather than as an approval of a specific developer or development plan.
Council did not record budget commitments or specific grant conditions in the meeting minutes; the letter of support was described as a routine municipal endorsement to help the county apply for regional infrastructure grant funding.
