The Centre County Board of Commissioners approved the proposed 2025 schedule for the county’s liquid fuels and fee‑for‑local‑use program, which distributes state liquid fuels and county vehicle-fee funds to municipalities for road and bridge projects.
Risha, the new transportation planner in the county planning office, presented the schedule and said applications will open in August and be reviewed by staff and a panel; the board planned to present staff recommendations in November and make final awards in mid‑December. Risha said all 35 municipalities are eligible to apply and staff will assist applicants; the county encourages cross-municipal applications for roads that span borders.
Staff discussed funding levels in broad terms. The presenter and commissioners said the combined pool of liquid fuels plus the vehicle-registration fee appears to be roughly $840,000 for the current cycle, with the liquid fuels portion lower at present (Risha cited $28,412 as a current liquid fuels balance and noted typical liquid fuels deposits historically around $160,000). Commissioners reiterated that Centre County itself owns no roads and that approximately 100% of these allocations are regranted to municipalities or used for county-support projects such as bridge bundles. County speakers also noted Act 13 (natural gas impact) funds have supported large bridge rehabilitation projects.
The board voted to approve the schedule by voice vote. Staff will finalize the exact deposit amounts later in the year and proceed with notices and application processing.
