Board approves Sunbelt Builders for preconstruction services on Southside Community Park

Newton County commissioners on June 17 authorized a construction manager-at-risk contract with Sunbelt Builders to provide pre-construction services for the Southside Community Park (Factory Shoals Park).
James Brown, interim county manager, and the project manager described the procurement: the county issued a request for proposals and received one submission from Sunbelt Builders. Staff evaluated the proposal and recommended awarding the pre-construction contract so the firm can join the design team. Brown said this is the first step and that the county will return to the board later with a guaranteed maximum price for construction once pre-construction work is complete.
Meeting materials presented to the board list the authorization for execution in the amount of $3,000 for the pre-construction contract. The board moved and voted to approve the contract authorization and to allow staff to execute the agreement and continue work toward a GMP for construction.
Officials said funding for the project comes from SPLOST 2023 and that the contract is budgeted under that fund. Further contract details and the GMP will be presented to the board for approval when available.
