County accepts $32,004.73 donation for pickleball court at senior center

The Newton County Board of Commissioners voted June 17 to accept a $32,004.73 donation to install a pickleball court at the Senior Enrichment Center at 40 Richard Chapel Road.
Bridal Reed, director of Senior Services, said the funding was raised by Newton County Senior Services Inc., the nonprofit associated with the county'run senior program, and by the seniors themselves. Reed said the group raised $40,000 total, with the extra funds earmarked for additional furnishings and amenities at the new enrichment center. She told the board: "They worked for it, and I just want the approval from the board. So, because it is going on county land. And so once it goes there, it's the counties."
Commissioners praised Reed and senior volunteers for the fundraising and supported installing the court as an amenity for active seniors. Commissioner Leon Long said, "I personally have budget fatigue right now. And, you've done a great job, and everybody on this board has done a great job working on this budget and put their whole heart into it to try to get, well, something that everybody could live with." The board approved acceptance of the donation; presenters said there is no county cost for the installation.
Staff said the court will be installed on county land at the senior enrichment center and then will be maintained as a county facility after installation.
