Commissioners approve change order adding 10 sites to landscaping contract

Jason Johnson, facilities director, told the Newton County Board of Commissioners on June 17 that facilities requested approval of change order No. 4 to the Lawn Care Professional Services Agreement to add 10 locations to the county'wide landscape maintenance contract.
Johnson said four of the added locations are roundabouts that the county assumes maintenance for after the state completes them; the other six are cell-tower sites that went online last year and were requested for service by 9-1-1. He said the additional annual contract cost is $31,166.16 and that the item is budgeted to start on July 1.
Commissioner Leon Long asked why the county was approving a contract change now if the work starts July 1; Johnson said the change order amends the vendor contract rather than the budget and that the $31,166.16 is already included in the new fiscal year budget. Commissioner Henderson moved to approve the change order; the motion was seconded and the board voted in favor.
Facilities staff said the vendor will begin maintenance as part of the July 1 contract year.
