Council approves Musco purchase order for Westside Park lighting; installation contract expected next week

The Mobile City Council approved a purchase order to Musco Sports Lighting for new stadium lighting and poles at Westside Park and staff told the council an installation contract will follow shortly.

The issue matters to local sports users: staff described the action as replacement of lights and some poles for all ball fields at Westside Park, with the materials purchase on the agenda and a separate installation contract expected soon. Staff told the council the goal is to finish by February so the fields will be available for the next baseball season.

When Councilmember Woods asked for a public explanation and a time frame, a parks department staff member said, “this is a replacement of all of the lights and some of the poles, for all the ball fields at Westside Park. So this what you're seeing on the agenda for Musco is the purchase of the materials, which are all the lights and the poles that are required. You'll see a second contract coming probably in the next week or so for the actual contract for the installation of the lights and the poles.” The staff member added the city’s goal was to have the work finished by February so facilities would be ready for the spring/summer season.

The agenda lists Purchase Order 08846 to Musco Sports Lighting for $580,000 for the Westside Park lighting materials. The transcript shows council members thanked staff for pursuing the project and asked for clarity on timing; staff confirmed installation contracting will follow the materials purchase and that the February completion target is the objective.
