Wichita County’s treasurer delivered the May 2025 treasury report on Tuesday, telling commissioners the county’s cash balances are tracking close to last year’s levels and that investment interest through May totaled about $1,200,000.
The treasurer said the county’s money‑market accounts were yielding roughly 4.6 percent and that the total cash‑balance graphs for 2024 and 2025 are "stacked right on top of each other," indicating similar cash activity year over year. The treasurer also reported delays in reconciliation work after an American National Bank system update produced multiple statements per account.
The treasurer said the reconciliation took longer than usual because of the bank update, and staff received help to complete the reports. He told the court that amortization schedules for outstanding debt — including the county's bond for air‑conditioning — appear in the packet and that, depending on year‑end calculations, there may be an opportunity to make an extra debt payment.
Commissioners discussed continuing to 'make hay while the sunshine' on favorable interest rates and noted ongoing ARPA spending has reduced the county’s available ARPA funds compared with previous years. The treasurer clarified the cash balance report includes all county funds (special revenue, bonds, etc.) and does not include certain outside accounts (noted as OEDF in the packet).
No formal vote was required; the item was presented as the regular treasury report.
