Montgomery High Science Olympiad team honored after state title, 10th‑place national finish

The board welcomed members of the Montgomery High School Science Olympiad, who were introduced as New Jersey state champions and as a team that finished 10th at the recent National Science Olympiad tournament.
Coach and presenters described a season of sustained preparation that began in November and included competitions at Cornell, MIT, Princeton and the University of Pennsylvania. The program brought three separate teams to Cornell and traveled to national competition in Lincoln, Nebraska, with roughly 39 students making the trip by bus. The coaches credited students’ dedication and volunteer fundraising efforts — including a junior Cougar championship and workshops — with offsetting costs and enabling wider participation.
The team reported top‑6 national rankings in 10 events including Write It Do It, Tower, Geo Mapping, Dynamic Planet, Codebusters, Materials Science, Chem Lab, Astronomy, Disease Detectives and Fossils and said seniors who led the program will be asked to mentor future teams. Coaches noted that next year’s national tournament will be at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and that preparation is already starting.
Board members and the superintendent congratulated the students and coaches and invited community members to see the demonstrations and ask questions after the meeting.
