Planning Director Sirick recommended approval of a revised lease with Captain Jay’s miniature golf with the rent terms defined in the lease agreement; the council voted to approve the lease retroactive through 2015.
Sirick said the city and the lessee have negotiated escalating rent tied to past improvements; some expected improvements and restaurant development on the island have not materialized and the lessee sought relief given economic conditions. Sirick said the mayor and staff hope additional tourist activity and service-industry development will increase use of the island and support the business.
The council approved the retroactive lease to run through 2015 and noted staff would be open to future renegotiation if the tenant sought changes at that time.
