Assistant Public Works Director Janigo recommended awarding the sidewalk and alley repair contract to Chippewa Concrete in the amount of $512,288; the council approved the award on a voice vote. Public Works Director Goetzmann recommended awarding the K Street and relief-sewer contract to PCI Roads for $614,007; that award also passed on voice vote.
Councilors asked how the $614,007 contract would be charged across funds. Staff explained the work includes two projects about 100 feet apart along East Second Street: a stormwater pipe lining tied to Marina Drive washout (charged to the stormwater enterprise) and a headworks/diversion structure related to wastewater capacity (charged to the wastewater fund). Staff said the wastewater portion is about $500,000 and the stormwater portion is roughly $114,000 and that there remains sufficient stormwater utility balance to cover planned 2013 projects after incoming payments later in August.
Councilor McKenzie requested a specific remaining-balance figure for the stormwater enterprise; staff said they would provide that number to councilors. Both awards proceeded after council discussion and passed on aye voice votes.
