At the Dec. 4 Common Council meeting, Councilor Lan Joyal informed colleagues he will resign from the Common Council effective Dec. 27, 2012. The council voted to "receive and file" the resignation and later approved a motion to solicit letters of interest to fill the vacancy and invite applicants to speak at the Dec. 18 meeting.
Joyal made the announcement under agenda item 9.1 and the council accepted the resignation by voice vote. A subsequent motion—moved from the floor and seconded—directed staff to solicit letters of interest and to invite persons who submit letters to attend and speak at the Dec. 18 meeting; the motion carried by voice vote.
Council members thanked Joyal for his service to the community during the meeting. No appointment was made at the Dec. 4 session; the council set a process and a date for considering applicants.
