Council appoints Lou Martin to fill remainder of Sixth District seat
Summary
The council appointed Lou Martin to complete the remainder of Councilor Len Joyl’s term; Martin said he will not run in April’s election. The vote was 7–2 in favor of Martin.
The Superior Common Council selected Lou Martin on Dec. 18 to fill the remainder of the Sixth District seat vacated by Len Joyl. After nominations, the council voted and Martin was confirmed by a 7–2 vote.
Martin addressed the council before the vote, outlined his background in broadcasting and confirmed he does not intend to run in the April election for the seat. Two other candidates — Marge Kaptanak and Kim Collins — also spoke to the council before nominations.
The council chair called for nominations; Lou Martin and Kim Collins were both nominated. After a roll call-style confirmation, Martin received seven votes and was appointed to the seat effective Dec. 27.
Outcome: Lou Martin appointed to complete the term; he indicated he will not be a candidate in the upcoming April election.
