Summary
Committee chairs updated commissioners that multiple arts education grants and programs are open or underway, including arts education project grants, field trip supports, Creative Spark residencies, National Poetry Out Loud participation and paid summer internships.
Hector (Arts Education Committee) and staff reported on June 16 that CAH’s arts education grant rounds and year‑round programs are active, supporting students, teachers and seniors with residencies, field trips and competitions.
Staff said the FY26 arts and humanities education project grants, fellowship program (AHFP), field trip experiences (FTE) and capital project grant windows opened in May and that application deadlines were scheduled for late June. The Creative Spark residencies — three‑session teaching-artist residencies serving pre-K through 12 and older adults 50+ — are underway for FY25 and run through September 2025.
On competitive programs, CAH noted that a DC student advanced in the National Poetry Out Loud Mid‑Atlantic competition and that the commission’s Words on Fire Poetry Festival for middle and high school students will return in August. Staff also reported that five summer interns are supporting CAH departments on exhibitions, cataloging, mapping and outreach.
Why it matters: These programs fund teaching artists, expand classroom access to arts learning and provide professional experience for interns and teaching artists. Staff asked commissioners to participate in panels and public programs where possible.
Ending: Staff will continue to post dates and registration instructions on the CAH website and social channels; panel schedules and workshop materials will be shared with commissioners.
