Marlboro students place top three in NJSBA STEAM Tank challenge with turtle-safety device

Three students from Robertsville Elementary — who called themselves Team Turtle — presented a device they called the "TED cubed" to the board and said the team placed in the top three at the New Jersey School Boards Association STEAM Tank challenge.
Team Turtle members described a three-part deterrent for commercial nets: low-frequency vessel-motor sounds played through a speaker net, pulsating red lights on a mesh bar to signal danger, and a scent bar intended to mimic shark presence. They said the design evolved after consulting Liz Clark, a marine biologist at Monmouth University.
Robertsville Principal (Mister Giuritano) and staff facilitating the team praised the students' work and noted the team will present at the NJSBA conference in Atlantic City in October. Board members applauded the students at the meeting.
