Commissioners approve road striping, millings stockpile plan and contingent FDOT change order

Jackson County commissioners approved multiple road and transportation items: a restriping contract for Basswood Road, a plan to accept millings from a state paving project for local use, and a contingent change order to tie a county project to a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project.
County staff presented a quote of $44,576.70 to re-stripe Basswood Road from Highway 71 to State Road 2, which includes reflective pavement markers and centerline and edge lines. The commission approved the restriping using funds from the county's annual striping program.
Staff also reported that Anderson Columbia's milling work on the state project from Marianna to Grand Ridge had begun; the county is receiving milled material, with plans to stockpile near the Emergency Operations Center for the Marianna-to-Cypress section and in a Reno Road pit for material from further east to Grand Ridge. Staff said two stockpile locations would reduce haul distances and allow commissioners to request millings for district repairs as quantities become available.
Separately, the board approved a motion to accept a change order provided by DRMP to extend an existing county project by 200 linear feet, enlarge a turnout on Croones Road and add a modern intersection at Caswell Highway for $39,931.51, contingent on FDOT's approval and funding contribution. Staff said FDOT would review the change order and, if FDOT declines or alters scope, the county could fund the tie-in independently and return to the board for approval of any additional costs.
Ending: Commissioners instructed staff to inspect local roads reported by residents (including Peanut Road) and to coordinate distribution of milled material to districts as available; the change order will only proceed if FDOT concurs and provides the necessary funding.
