Board appoints Marquisha Parker associate superintendent and promotes John Hart to superintendent

The Danville School District 118 Board of Education unanimously approved two leadership appointments at its June 17 meeting: Marquisha Parker as associate superintendent and John Hart as superintendent of schools.

Board members nominated and voted to appoint Marquisha Parker. The motion passed by roll call 6-0. Board members cited Parker’s local roots, her instructional and administrative experience and recent superintendent endorsement as reasons for support. The board introduced Parker with a summary of her education and career path, including a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Eastern Illinois University, multiple master’s degrees and a superintendent endorsement attained in May 2025.

Marquisha Parker addressed the board and community, saying she felt “humbled and honored” and pledged to “lead transparently, be visible and accessible, and do what is right because it's the right thing to do.” She said she plans to refine district systems, move forward with strategic planning and implement initiatives to support every student’s success.

The board also moved to promote John Hart from interim superintendent to superintendent. The motion carried 6-0. Board members praised Hart’s 24 years in District 118 in roles that included teacher, principal, director and assistant superintendent. The board highlighted Hart’s academic background, including an education specialist degree and superintendent endorsement, and cited his commitment to rigorous instruction and social-emotional wellness.

Hart thanked the board and staff and said he is “ready to move this district forward,” expressing appreciation for the district team and pledging to continue focusing on student outcomes.

Both appointments were effective immediately upon the June 17 votes; the board said the moves complete a phase of leadership transitions intended to stabilize district administration.
